Forus, in partnership with its regional coalition ADA, is developing a report which examines the role that goal 16 (Promote just, peaceful and inclusive societies) of the SDGs can play in creating a more enabling environment for civil society around the world. This report with Forus members will be launched at the HLPF in New York this July.

In order to develop this report, Forus & ADA members joined a call on 5th March 2020 to discuss the possibility of contributing to a joint Forus/ADA Goal 16 report in 2020 on civic space and enabling environment. The thrust of the report will be to highlight the lack of any global level indicator linked to Goal 16 of the 2030 Agenda to measure progress on civic space and enabling environment.

The report will include a range of case studies on civic space & enabling environment fromForus & ADA members. The case studies will focus on both good practice and challenges in relation to civic space and enabling environment for civil society in different countries. In addition to case studies, members will propose draft indicators for measuring civic space and enabling the environment.

The report will be launched at the HLPF in July 2020 and will make a range of key recommendations including the need for a global level indicator on civic space to be adopted as part of the follow-up and review of Goal 16 (Target 16.10) of the 2030 Agenda.
