Forus is launching an exciting new project to gain a deeper understanding of civil society dynamics in Africa. Together with the three African Regional Coalitions REPAOC, REPONGAC and SADC-CNGO, Forus have identified the need to improve its understanding on two key points:

1) What is the current health of civil society in Africa, and particularly of African members of Forus? and

2) How to improve the engagement between Forus, the Regional Coalitions, and national platforms in Africa.

The 6 countries that will be visited by the CIDT research team for the field study are: DRC (pilot visit in early January), Chad, Gambia, Benin, Zambia and Botswana. These countries will represent a balance of different sub-regions in Africa, different types of platforms, and varying patterns of engagement with Forus and the Regional Coalitions.

The study will include a survey sent to all members of African National Platforms, members of Forus around January/February 2020. Many of you, as National Platforms members of Forus, will also be contacted for interviews by the consultants. The results of the study will be available in March/April 2020, and we expect that they will greatly inform our strategy for engagement with members in Africa, and the next Forus Strategy for 2021-2025.

We look forward to collaborating on this project, which will greatly contribute to improving the quality of our engagement and help Forus as a global network to be more relevant and responsive to the specific needs and situation of African civil society.
